Ya Can't Keep a Good Girl Down

Happy Monday again!

I had a great week - up until Thursday! I got super sick with a really bad cold / sinus infection / whatever it was.  I guess I was just glad that it wasn't the flu!  It put me down for pretty much the rest of the week and weekend, but I'm slowly recuperating.

Along with the sickness came the inability to work out for 4 days and the lazy attitude of not putting much effort into eating healthy - who cares when you're sick right? Well, you should - but I didn't.

So, it's not the best "ending" to the first  month of the year, but I'll make the best of it.  I'm feeling good enough now to do some exercising so I'll definitely be getting a couple of good workouts in from now until Thursday (the last day of the month).  Last January weigh-in day will be Thursday also! Crossing my fingers that I still come at least close to making my "4 pound" goal for January.

"Green week" also still went well last week! I Instagrammed the first few days, then kept forgetting to take a pic before I ate my "green" the rest of the days of the week.  Oops :-)

After a whole week of green tea only in the morning (woo hoo!!), this week I will be experimenting with different kinds of teas (all DEcaffeinated though!!!) If I get through this week headache free, I can actually say that I successfully weaned myself off of caffeine (and coffee) in one month - headache free!  Maybe I should write a book or something? haha!

I'll be doing a "January 2013 - Month End Review" on Thursday to update on how the whole month went for me in regards to my goals! I think it will be mostly good news! :-)

I hope you all have a fantastic week of sticking to your goals and making things happen!

P.S. I think Britt was either kidnapped or she's in hiding.  Hopefully you'll see a post from her soon. And she called ME the slacker in our "Breakup" post a while back. Humph!

Love,
Linds

Green Week

Happy Monday ya'll!

Just 4 days till Friday, right?

No but seriously, I hope that isn't your mindset every week.  If so, your life is going to fly by so fast and you won't even realize it! So don't wish your life away.  Take every day that God has given you and make the best of it - no matter where or how you have to spend it.

Psalm 118:24 says - "This is the day that the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it! &

Ecclesiastes 9:10 says - "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest."

God has given you each day, so rejoice in it!  Don't just rejoice, but give it your absolute best shot now while you're alive instead of regretting it once you're close to the grave.

So even though it's extremely frigidly cold in my part of this glorious neighborhood on earth, I'm going to give this day my best.  Which includes my best in my "diet" / lifestyle.

This week is "Green Tea" week for me! I successfully made it through a whole week with no morning coffee!  Last week I swapped my morning coffee for a cup of hot black tea (50 mg less caffiene than coffee) and successfully had no headaches. This week, it's time for green tea (which has around 25 mg less caffeine than black tea).

I'm feeling great and saving alot of calories in the morning! For tea, I only add one teaspoon of Splenda.  With coffee? about 3 TABLEspoons of fatening and sugary creamer. I just feel much healthier sippin' on a cup of hot tea. Feeling healthier = acting healthier.

In honor of this week of drinking green tea, I decided to call it "Green Week." That means that I'm really going to focus on my greens - more green vegetables, salads, etc. My goal is at least one "green" meal a day.  Wanna join me on my green challenge?

Here's to a great, productive, and healthy week! Rejoice in it!

P.S. I lost half a pound for my weigh-in on Saturday.  Yea, it's not the full pound that I wanted, but hey, it's still progress! :) Looking forward to the next weigh-in!

A Glimpse Into My Every-Day Life

Happy Wednesday! Only 2 more days 'til Friday! :)
....and 3 more till weigh-in day for me. *fingers crossed*

This week has been pretty great! Mainly because I have decided to be obsessive compulsive. If you don't get what I mean, here it is:

Yes, that is a daily schedule written on my mirror (Thanks to my awesome "Glass Crayons").  I realized that in order for me to fit in everything that I want to during my day, I would have to come up with some kind of blueprint to keep me on track.  I am a HUGE listmaker (no pun intended....ha!), so having a schedule like this that I can cross off as I accomplish things is extremely gratifying.  Find something that gives you satisfaction when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle is super important - and this is my form of satisfaction!  so, I sat down and made a schedule for each day of my week. Of course, I left it flexible and open for revisions, because hardly anyone can follow a strict schedule to the tee every single day.

The best part about this schedule is that it totally fits ME! For example, I am NOT a morning person at all, and I probably NEVER will be.  So, I let myself sleep in as much as possible and stay up as late as possible while still allowing myself to get some good sleep. Of course there will be nights when I stay up later and mornings when I sleep in longer, but who cares! It happens.  I'm loving my schedule so far, and I would recommend for anyone to make a schedule like it of their own! But make it with yourself in mind - which means, take into account your quirks, habits, and personality.  If you know that you can't workout past 6 PM without it killing you, don't do it! Move it to another time! It will only be effective if it's catered to you.  And who doesn't like having something catered to them??

Enjoy the rest of your week! :)

It's Always a Good Time

Britt had a cheesy title so I thought would too - Especially since I've had a love for Owl City as of late. :)

But for real, I've had a pretty "good time" the last couple of days!

First, I got my new laptop! I absolutely love it and I'm so excited.  It's a touchscreen! I've been having so much fun with it, and I'm thinkin' I will be able to start blogging a lot more often! Finally!

Also, I had my first official weigh in of 2013 this morning and I lost 1 and a half pounds!  Since the year started in the middle of the week last week, I am right on track of my goal! The half was for last week (the half week) and the other pound is for this week! Yay!!!

The "Mile a Day" Challenge is going very well! It's a lot of fun to try to find new ways to take pictures to document each day.

Lastly, my resolution to get off of my "addiction" to coffee is also going great! I only had 2 this week, and I've been substituting black tea for my morning coffee.  It has quite a bit less caffeine in it.  After doing that for about another week, I'm going to start substituting the black tea for green tea...which has a significant lesser amount of caffeine in it.  After that, I will hopefully be free of my need for caffeine every single morning.  Just to clarify, I'm not completely giving up coffee.  Of course I'm still going to have my Starbucks occasionally.  My goal in my New Year's Resolutions List was to just break the habit of HAVING to have it every morning unless I wanted to have an extreme headache all day. So far, SUCCESS!

That's my life lately! Have a great rest of the weekend!

P.S. Just started talking about my March Haiti trip in class on Thursday...getting soooo excited!! :)

Snow Long Friends

Hahahahahahah. Excuse the cheesy line. Wait-did any one actually get that?...Soooo long friends :)

Guess what I did tonight? Bought my snowboard gear! I'm so in love. No pics of the board or binding yet but I will be picking it up freshly waxed and ready to go Tuesday so you will be seeing some.

This was a great week of sticking to newly formed goals and resolutions but also a difficult time of adjusting back to a 5 day work week. God definitely threw some amazing people into my life this week.  Don't you love when God just surprises you with putting another believer in your path? It just reminds you of why you're here to begin with.  I was definitely ready for a fun Friday night and a productive Saturday tomorrow! Lots of busy work and house work to get done than some fun & family time on Sunday. Jax is getting dedicated! Can't wait to see my niece and nephew! I miss them!!!

Any one have any exciting plans? Have a great weekend friends & enjoy the warm weather tomorrow!

Boot Camp

I can barely move from Boot Camp. Seriously. Great class! I attempted to stretch out my legs a bit during cycling tonight. It did help some, but WOW. When I say sore-I mean like I can barely move kinda sore.

I'm redesigning out blog so this is gonna be short & sweet!

School is back on starting tomorrow and that means the cafeteria is back! Wish me some extra luck in being strong when I see that entire corner of desserts. Any one watch the Bachelor? Who are your faves? I know I have mine! But I must keep them secret since Bachelor Fantasy is pretty intense right now. Night bloggies :)

Birthdays, Boards, and More

What I thought was going to be a peaceful, productive weekend turned into a non stop weekend full of fun and bruises. Friday night started with some shopping and thrifting with a good friend, Kate and her little girl! Found some awesome deals for the house and made some buys for other things I needed to do including the following:

1. Make Bella a new Arbonne bag since she has already destroyed hers from using it for everything from underwear to cups of water to half eaten suckers and basically her entire toy collection.

2. A binder for my almost here Project Life! I cannot wait to get this started and show y'all how I'll be documenting 2013.

3. Some odds and ends for my new project coming soon that I will be selling :)

4. Snow jacket for my snowboarding adventure Saturday.

So after some shopping, I headed home for a Birthday sleepover with Lindsay. We really just did a little workout together and watched a movie and than got up early for some shopping and Starbucks. Linds got her new Northface and owl from me as her gift which I think she liked but who knows. Lindsay? Hahaha. Later Saturday, we had some din with friends and fam and finished the evening with 4 hours of snowboarding. It was a blast. But I am terrible. I just kept going though because one day, I will be decent hahahaha. Hopefully. Seriously though, I cannot stop for the life of me! I just panic and fall over but whatever. I only have a few bumps and bruises.

So today is Lindsay's birthday as well as my first day of boot camp and the premiere of Bachelor! Cannot wait! It's going to be a GREAT day!

New Beginnings = Better Endings

Top of the mornin' to ya! :)

Britt slightly stole my idea for this blog post by sharing her other 2013 goals, but oh well! I'm going to share mine as well! There are ironically a bit similar, but hey, we're sisters.  We're mentally connected somehow???

So here's what my personal, uncategorized New Year's Resolution List looks like in no particularly important order...

1.) Never miss a day of prayer and devotions.  I have a great devotional book that has a devotion for each day of the year, and it has a space at the end of it to journal something special about that day.  And it's not one of those lame devotional books that you read in less than 2 minutes!

2.) Put more effort and work into the ministries I am involved with at church.  Right now, my main focus is the Youth Ministry since I am currently in charge of it.  I want to put all of my energy into the work that God has called me to do! When things get busy, my work for God should be the LAST thing that suffers.

3.) Pay at least $3,000 toward my Student Loans - I don't technically have to start paying until I graduate in the fall, but I really want to get a head start!

4.) Break my morning coffee habit - I'm definitely not completely giving up coffee.  I just want to break my caffeine dependence on it in the morning so I don't go through withdrawals when I don't have it!

5.) Stop drinking diet soda - I'm actually trying to stay away from ALL soda, but I especially want to stop drinking diet.  I continue to hear more and more bad things about it and its effects on your health, so I just want to break myself away from it once and for all!

6.) Grow my hair out - I want it to be at least as long as it was at the beginning of 2011! :)

2011

7.) Be more grateful - I take so many things for granted. I want to start taking time often to think of how blessed I am and also to take the time to express my thanks to the people in my life who are a part of those blessings.  God has been so good to me!

8.) Create at least one "DIY" project a month - Britt definitely beat me one this one, as she said that her goal is to do at least 2 per month.  But she's already more crafty than me anyway! I want to start being crafty in the smart way (saving things I might be able to use for a craft project instead of BUYING craft materials) in order to save money!  Buying materials for DIY project kind of completely defeats the purpose anyhow!

9.) Learn how to play at least one song on the piano and perform it - So, I have to admit, this one was on my 2012 New Years Resolutions List too.  I DID do the first part though! (learning the song) I just never got around to performing it.  We'll see how this year goes!

10.) Learn at least one new thing every month - anything useful! This could range from learning how to run a program, learn how to cook a new recipe, learning how to work on something on my car, etc. January's "Something New" is going to be learning how to french braid! :)

11.) Learn 100 phrases in a different language - I know quite a bit of phrases in Spanish already, but since I will be going back to Haiti in March, I chose to learn 100 phrases in Haitian Creole! I guess this one is more like a "3 Month Resolution" since I want to do it by the time I go back to Haiti in March!

Haiti 2012

12.) Get out of my comfort zone - This one might be the hardest of them all.  I am naturally, honestly a shy person.  If I see someone that I might know in a store, I tend to want to run the other way in order to avoid an awkward conversation!  I also usually avoid doing things that I really want to do just because I'm afraid it will be awkward.  So, this year, I want to step out of my fearful comfort zone and live life to my fullest :)

13.) Read for 20  minutes before bed for at least one month - I am not a reader at ALL. (With the exception of the Hunger Games series...I got a little bit obsessed.) But I always hear about how good it is for you and for your brain, so I want to try to make it a habit to read at least a little bit every day.  I'm starting off with the goal of one month, but if I make it that long, I am going to continue the routine for the rest of the year.  I'm going to start this one in the month of February!

14.) Start the Envelope Budget system - Same system as Britt! I saw this on Pinterest a long time ago and I've wanted to do it for a long time - so I finally am!

15.) Last but not least, I want to lose 48 pounds.  Yea, 48 is kind of a random number...why not 50? Well, here's why.  There's usually 4 weeks in one month.  12 months in a year. If I lose one pound a week this year, I will reach my goal by the end.  One pound a week seems so attainable and in my reach! There's a total of 52 weeks in the year...so I have a few extra weeks at my disposal for those times when you just need to cheat because a diet is a permanent lifestyle...not a temporary change.

And, of course, our "Mile a Day" Challenge. We've started a #SCIADSAS hashtag on Instagram for our "blog related" pictures.  Check it out!

I'll keep you posted on the progress of all my New Year's challenges!

What are some of yours?

Happy 2013! Make it the best yet.

A Year of New Things

Happy 2013 everybody. Linds has decided to get back with me on the blog which I am super excited about. I think it helps to start the year off fresh. Now we definitely slacked off with the blogging last year. We had our good spurts here and there but one of my goals this year is to get back to the basics!

I started the year off heading to Starbs for some green tea since I'm giving up coffee for some time and than went to Panera for what Jon and I have decided to make our NY tradition. We got some oatmeal and fruit with our morning beverages and went to work on our IPADs. We were jotting goals and dreams down for 2013 and downloading apps to help us make those things come true. We spent the morning chatting about each other's goals and how our goals compared and coincided and how we could maybe help each other accomplish certain goals. We even went as far as to trade tablets and add a few goals for each other in the personal relationship department. I'm not going to bore you with all of our tedious little goals because we are definitely specific and very detailed in that department, but I will share a few from each category. Yes...there are more several categories.

Spiritual Goals:
Read the Bible in a Year
Get involved in a new ministry or community service

Personal Goals:
Read 1-2 books a month
Work on my level of patience (This one was from Jon)
Jon and I are starting to tak Fe turns every other Friday night to plan a special date night
Learn to go with the flow

Adventure Goals:
Hike a new trail
Go skydiving

Financial Goals:
All extra money goes into savings
Start the envelope budget system...More about that HERE
Start a savings account for my doggy budget :) Humorous but needed!

Creative Goals:
Two pinterest projects a month
One new recipe a week
Blog faithfully-new ideas for the blog are coming!

And finally...

GET FIT!

Of course this is an ongoing goal of mine, but I am trying some new things and getting back to some basics.

Fitness goals:
Lose 10 pounds by Valentines Day
Meet my goal weight by my birthday
Start attending YMCA classes as many times per week but a minimum of 3 a week
No coffee detox for January
Cut down soda and no soda for March
Run a 5k with Jon by Memorial Day
Run Hargus trail-no stopping by July 4th
and last but not least...

A MILE A DAY which Lindsay has already chatted about! I heard about this from my friend Heidi's blog I'm sure anyone reading my blog, also reads her blog but if you don't check it out. Heidi's blog  introduced me to the founder of the challenge-Elise. Jon liked the idea as well so he is joining us as well. Here are some pics from our first few days!
Day 1

Day 2

Linds and I are pumped about this challenge and we are going to stick with our mile a today whether we are running, walking, biking, or swimming a mile! We are gonna make it happen!

Tomorrow is Friday already! Here's to a short work week and a great start to 2013!

Are You Ready for the Challenge?

As I was reading a few other blogs this morning, the trend of the day seems to be, "Wow. I can't believe it's a new year already." And I have to agree with them.  Britt and I were just reflecting on the Monday, the last day of the year, on how this time last year I got stranded at her apartment for a few days, including the first day of the new year of 2012, and we were planning this blog.  We set out to make lifestyle changes as many do on the first of the year, and we chose to blog together as a way to document those changes.  Also like many others, our lives became busier and busier as the year went on and as new jobs, school, travels, new additions to the family, and many other things came onto the scene.  In the midst of all of that, we weren't exactly the most faithful bloggers, and honestly, not completely faithful to our New Year's Resolutions. But the attitude that I feel right now is, what year better than 2013 to finally get it right, right?

I'm guessing by now you've figured out that you're reading a blog post written by LINDSAY, not Britt.  And you're probably saying to yourself, "Wait, I thought Brittany just said in the last blog post that she and Lindsay "Broke up" via blogging? Even if you're not asking yourself that question, I'll answer it anyway.  Yes, we did break up via blogging, but we're back together and ready to face a new year of change together--better and more fiercely than ever! Don't you just love mended relationships? I do!

At the end of 2013 (which I know will be here before I even realize that it started), we hope to be changed for the better in many areas - spiritually, physically, mentally, intellectually, and more.  I feel a determination to NOT be writing this same, "Ok, let's try again" blog post on January 1st, 2014.

So, what's our plan you may ask? Well, as we look back on our weight loss and fitness journey of 2012, we see MANY ups and downs of motivation.  And what hope of success is there when you have no motivation?  Therefore, we pinpointed that inconsistency as the main root of our struggles.

As a result, my brilliant and lovely sister devised a challenge for the both of us to take:

We will be taking the "Mile a Day" challenge to combine our love of Instagram and our desire for accomplishment in order to make success!

Here's how it works:

We both devote time during every day (no exceptions!) to complete a mile of exercise.  ANY type of exercise! Running, Jogging, Walking, Swimming, Biking, Roller blading, Snowboaring, and the list could go on and on!

I plan to be doing alot of my miles via biking with my awesome new bike! (shown here by Miss Brittany)

At the end of the mile each day, we will take an Instagram photo to document and remember that day's mile, while using the hastag #mileaday.

We're not alone on this one...we got the idea from another blogger named Elise Blaha (http://eliseblaha.typepad.com/golden/2012/11/a-mile-a-day.html), and many others, like us, have joined in too!

Of course, there will definitely be times when we go above and beyond that one mile, but the idea is that  no matter what, we will get at least a mile of exercise EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. And have fun with Instagram while we're at it!

We hope that you will choose to take on the "Mile a Day" challenge with us! Request to follow us on Instagram so you can follow our miles! martin2132 (me) and bmartin1232 (britt) We look forward to
sharing it with you!

Are you ready for the challenge?
